Peace Tower
Church was born in the Hearts of Pastor John and Christine Raymer in 2002.
Pastor John was ministering in the city of Ottawa and heard the Lord ask him
“to care for sheep without a shepherd”. In 2003 Pastor John and Christine moved
to Ottawa and on July 1, 2004 Peace Tower Church held their first service in
the Embassy Hotel at the corner of Kirkwood Road and Carling Road.
The church was
birthed as a Charismatic-Pentecostal body of believers. A local community of
believers under God, empowered by the Holy Spirit to have a global impact
through the generosity and the mobilization of its resources. Peace Tower
church was made to be a sending centre that releases equipped disciples to
reach Ottawa, Canada and the World, with the Love of Jesus Christ.
That year the
church moved into a warehouse just off Kirkwood Avenue. After hauling away four
large skips of garbage it was ready for its first service. In May 2005 Pastor
Jonathan joined Pastor John as the Associate. Jonathan and his wife, Tara,
ministered to the Youth, Young Adults, Children and outreach. During those
first few years of the church, it was clear that there was to be a focus on
prayer and reaching others with the gospel of Jesus. While at the warehouse
location the church ran outreaches such as “Party in the Park” and Vacation
Bible School, focused on reaching the neighbourhood around it. The church
began to reach refugees in the city, with a strong connection to the Catholic
Immigration Board. The church began to grow as a multinational community. All
the ministries at the church flourished.
As the church
began to outgrow their warehouse it was clear to the Leadership that Peace
Tower Church was called to the downtown of Ottawa with the message of Jesus. So,
while other churches were moving out of the downtown core to find more land,
Peace Tower Church purchased Erskine Presbyterian Church on Bronson Avenue in
2009, in the heart of downtown Ottawa.
The first
service was held in the new building, a landmark for the community, in November
2009. The service was attended by the congregants of Peace Tower Church as well
as many of the church neighbours and former members who were excited to see
life return to the building. The church continued to be a regional centre and
people continued to travel from all over Ottawa to join. The many ministries at
the church continued to grow and develop. Prayer continued as a focus as well
as the Kids, Youth and Young Adult ministries. “Party in the Park” continued to
be a big event for the community as it took over McNabb Park with a free BBQ,
Games and Bouncy Castles. Peace Tower Church began to focus on reaching its
neighbours in this new building. The church began a campus ministry which
thrived under the leadership of Pastor Jonathan.
In May 2014 Pastor Jonathan and Tara became
the Lead Pastors. This transition solidified the DNA of the church, including
the understanding that we are one generation, both young and old. As the church
continued to welcome new families, next-generation ministries continued to
expand. Peace Tower began outreaches such as “Mini Mall” where old items are
given new purpose (given freely to our community), “Alpha”, “Thanksgiving”, and “Christmas
Giveaways” which all saw the community welcomed into the building. You can
learn more about these outreaches here. The church grew
in attendance and in influence within the local area.
On October 6, 2019 Pastor David and Maureen Woodcock were voted in as the Lead Pastors of Peace Tower Church. The Woodcocks came with over 30 years of Pastoral experience to this amazing vibrant multicultural church in the heart of the city of Ottawa. They served the Indiana Assemblies of God for over 20 years and transitioned their church to their son and daughter-in-law in 2016. The Woodcocks believe they are in the best years of their lives with a Fivefold Apostolic vision to reach a city for the Kingdom of God.
More recently, on Nov. 13, 2022, Jimmy & Ginger Ntagabo became the new Lead Pastors of Peace Tower Church. Pastor Jimmy has been a part of Peace Tower Church almost from inception (since 2006), serving in various pastoral roles over the years. He is in many ways "a son of the house", being mentored by Pastor John Raymer. Jimmy and Ginger met at PTC early in 2014 and were married by Pastor Jonathan Hutchison in 2015. They both carry a great heart for ministry and are honoured to carry the torch passed on by Pastors David & Maureen. They’re called to raise generations of Champions for Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, for the transformation of a nation and beyond!
